How I Met Your Mother: Thanksgiving
November 17, 2021
“The Rebound Girl” Season 7, Episode 11
In the final Thanksgiving episode of How I Met Your Mother, there are two main plot lines. The more festive of the two follows the show’s token couple. Lily’s grandparents gift them their family home on Long Island, but Marshall and Lily decide to sell the house as they think they prefer the city. However, after a trip out there, Marshall and Lily fall in love with the home and decide to host Thanksgiving there. Their apartment in the city seems cramped and too small for their growing family. They begin to consider moving into the house permanently. Robin loudly objects and spends the day trying to convince them to stay in the city.
Meanwhile, Barney is recovering from his breakup with Nora and decides to do something crazy. He and Ted drunkenly talk about how they both want kids but are single. This leads to them coming up with the idea of adopting a baby together. They think “bro-parenting” will be the easiest way to have children and still date around. Ted quickly realizes it’s a bad idea and becomes even more horrified when Barney shows up at Lily and Marshall’s house with a baby. This episode is funny and relatively festive. It’s not the most Thanksgiving-y episode of all time, but I definitely think it deserves an annual watch. Also, there’s a cute baby, so definitely check it out.
