“Thanksgiving” Season 3, Episode 6
I feel like this show doesn’t get enough attention, but it’s a fantastic dark comedy. The series follows Chip, who dreams of being a Renoir clown but ends up working as a clown for his hometown rodeo. His mother, Christine, is overbearing but means well. In this episode, some french clowns that Chip has been dreaming of working with come to visit. They help brighten Christine’s thanksgiving, as she is spending it by herself. The clowns make her laugh, give her a group to help take care of, and help her re-live some old family memories. It’s charming, and it all ends with a makeshift thanksgiving meal at Arby’s.
The episode doesn’t sound like much, but it has a lot of subtle comedy and heartwarming moments. I think it helps if you’ve seen the show before to understand some of the jokes and just who the characters are. Still, my husband watched the episode with me today, and while he’s never seen the show before, he said he thought it was fun and festive. I would put this in the middle of your watchlist. It’s not the first thing to put on if you want some thanksgiving atmosphere, but it’s also not the last. It doesn’t have a ton of fall/thanksgiving atmosphere, but it definitely has some funny dinners and enjoyable family moments.
