“Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap” Season 5, Episode 9

In another HIMYM Thanksgiving episode, the slap bet makes a triumphant return. While celebrating their first thanksgiving in their apartment, Lily faces an unexpected roadblock: her father, Mickey, makes a surprise appearance. Lily and her father have not spoken in years, due to Mickey’s immaturity, irresponsibility, and him repeatedly letting her down throughout her childhood. Lily is adamant that he leave, but Marshall struggles to kick him out on a holiday that is about family. They clash and Lily eventually storms out. MArshall begins to understand LIly’s frustration when Mickey shows no signs of being upset by Lily leaving.

Meanwhile, Ted and Robin are given the ultimate gift: Marshall gives one of them a chance to slap Barney in the face. However, the slap bet gets more complicated when the two begin to argue over who gets to slap Barney. Will they decide before sundown? Or will Barney escape this Thanksgiving without being slapped?

This episode is very festive, with lots of autumnal decor throughout the set and the episode taking place at a Thanksgiving dinner. It also has the classic Tahsnkgiving episode trope of family fighting and reconciling before the meal is served, which is always a winner in my book. I definitely recommend making this episode part of your regular holiday lineup if you’re looking for a way to get in the Turkey Day spirit.
