As Told by Ginger: Thanksgiving

“Ten Chairs” Season 3, Episode
This is a great episode; if you're looking for a kid-friendly Thanksgiving episode, look no further. This episode deals with some complicated issues that kids actually face, which was wonderfully present in 90's children's media. Disney Channel and Nickelodeon weren't afraid to address complex topics with sensitivity and seriousness.
In this episode, Ginger invites her estranged father to their thanksgiving dinner. There are two main problems with this: firstly, she doesn't tell her mother that she has done this and sets her mother up for a big, unpleasant surprise when he arrives. Secondly, her brother holds a lot of resentment towards their father for leaving them and has begun to form a healthy relationship with their mom's boyfriend. Things become tense as the two men awkwardly interact with each other. There is also a side plot about Ginger's brother and his friend attempting to go vegan during dinner. They then have to fight against the urge to eat when the turkey served at dinner smells so good.
This episode is charming and poignant while still having some cartoonish fun. There are pretty leaves and yummy food present throughout the episode, making it an excellent thanksgiving watch. It's a fantastic episode to throw on if you have some kids or pre-teens to keep entertained. I would definitely recommend adding this episode to your watchlist.
