Wet Hot American Summer (2001): Summer
May, 17, 2016
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a parody of American summer camp movies and features a lot of famous comedic actors before they were "famous". The movie follows a group of counselors on the last day of summer camp in the '80s. It mocks summer camp movie cliches while also appreciating the genre. The movie didn't do well when it first came out but developed a huge cult following which led to a Netflix spin-off. This movie is great for a dose of lighthearted camp nostalgia. Since it's the last day of camp, kids and counselors alike are hoping to accomplish their summer goals, such as getting the girl, putting on a musical, or saving the world from falling space junk. This film is a champion of absurdist humor and satire. I will ALWAYS recommend this film for summertime enjoyment. It'll make you long for days with minimal adult supervision, no cell phones, and end of summer heat.
