The Burning (1981): Summer
July 15, 2016
So I’m going to admit something that I think makes me a bad horror fan: I think Friday the 13th is vastly overrated. When I want to watch a goddamn great summer camp slasher I prefer the far overlooked option: The Burning. This story is a summer camp slasher based loosely on the Cropsy urban legend. The movie was the start for several well known actors but was fairly unsuccessful in its time. However, I think it has picked up a cult following. I mean, most summer camp slashers are pretty formulaic (and thereby predictable) but I just adore this movie. The effects were done by Savini so, duh. I mean the prostitute scissor stabbing scene is just perfection. Anyway, as for liking this more than Friday the 13th I just find this to be more entertaining. I like the characters more and I like the villain more. It’s definitely a horror fan’s summer must see.
