Halloween (1978): Halloween
October 28, 2017
Alright, let’s do this. I’m honestly stunned that I didn’t review this last year, but here we go. This film follows the murders committed by Michael Myers, a strong silent type killer. The movie starts off seeing his first murder at the ripe young age of 6 years old. He is locked away, only to escape years later, and comes back to terrorize a group of teenagers. So this movie was made on an incredibly tiny budget and went on to make millions. It helped popularize the slasher genre and pioneered many common slasher tropes. I could go on and on about what this movie did for the genre, but that’s not what this website is about. This website is about finding seasonally appropriate shows and movies. I don’t think I really need to explain why this movie is perfect for Halloween. It’s a slasher, it’s set during Halloween, it’s called fucking Halloween. It might be a little cheesy, but if you’re going to watch one movie this Halloween, it should absolutely be this one. The Halloween decor and the aesthetic of a 1970's autumn will set the mood for a dark October evening. Is it my favorite horror movie ever? No. But it is perfect for this time of year and will definitely get you in a spooky mood.
