Sydney White (2007): Back to School
August 30, 2017
A fairly unoriginal 2000's movie about Greek life that is a parody of... Snow White? I remember when this Amanda Bynes flick came out, and I remember liking it well enough. It wasn't one of her best but it's still charming and kind of funny. It's definitely a product of the time, but I think it's still a good back to school movie. It's set at a college and shows an unrealistic (at least in my experience) portrayal of Greek life. Sydney is a sorority legacy, however she finds that the girls are less than welcoming. Feeling rejected she is welcomed in by the boys who live in the loser house (the Vortex) who she helps become less awkward and social reject-y. I miss the days where Amanda Bynes was reigning teen comedy queen, but if you watch this you can at least be transported back to that era. Also, remember when Sara Paxton was a thing? Ah, the good old days. I'd say this is a good fit for any back to college movie night... despite the fact that current college freshmen were 8 when this movie came out and that hurts me.
