Mystic Pizza (1988): Fall

September 14, 2017

I know this movie has a cult following, but I just... I don't get it. I'll be the first to admit that I have guilty pleasure movies, I like my fair share of subpar films, but this movie is just bad to me. First, the fact that they're trying to pass these white women as hispanic is just sad. Like when Julia Roberts calls a dude "white bread" it's flat out hilarious. The movie is about three young women who work at a pizza shop and are all nearing adulthood. It's kind of a typical coming-of-age story, one of them wants to "get out of this town", another is academically focused, and the third is grappling with the idea of marrying her boyfriend and her fear of moving too fast. I just don't get the appeal of this movie plot-wise but one thing it has in bulk is fall scenery. It's shot in New England and it has gorgeous shots of autumn leaves and breezy scenes by the water. I like to just have this film on in the background when I do something else so that when I look up every once in a while I have some pretty ambiance. So if you want some pretty fall sights, definitely check this movie out, just don't expect anything groundbreaking.
