Obvious Child (2014): Valentine's Day
February 8, 2020
Obvious Child is an excellent movie about a woman who is struggling to figure out what her future holds and faces tough choices in her present. Donna is a young stand up comic who gets dumped by her boyfriend. To make matters worse, he's leaving her for one of her close friends. After a one night stand, Donna realizes she is pregnant and schedules an abortion. Unfortunately for her, Valentine's Day is one of the only available dates. Donna wrestles with telling Max, her one night stand, about the abortion. Max ends up supporting her decision, and the two spend the rest of their Valentine's Day together. The movie is a little gritty but very realistic and shows the emotional toll that the decision to terminate a pregnancy causes. The relationship between Max and Donna is sweet. If you're looking for a non-traditional romantic comedy, I highly suggest this film. The film isn't a massive Valentine's Day fest, but it is sweet and emotional.
