“Do You Believe in Magic?” Season 8, Episode 12

In this Valentine’s Day episode of Modern Family, we follow the three families through different romantic and not-so-romantic shenanigans. This episode is fun and very Valentine-centric, making it a great way to get ready for some light and comedic romance.

Phil gets Claire a big romantic gift, in the form of the porch swing where they had their first kiss. While Phil is a natural with grand gestures, Claire tends to struggle with romance. Phil is hurt when Claire seems too busy to put in any effort, but Claire may have some magic up her sleeve to save the evening.

Meanwhile, Cam and Mitchell realize that they may be doling out some bad advice in their efforts to empower the women in their lives. First, they teach Lily some harsh words to use in response to a boy in her class teasing her, which leads to the boy running away and going missing. They also encourage Haley to dump her boyfriend, only to realize the entire thing was a misunderstanding. Finally, they accuse their friend Sal of settling for her boyfriend, leading to another break-up.

Finally, Jay is responsible for some of Joe’s bad habits, and Gloria is frustrated with the consequences. Joe gives lingerie to some of the girls in his life (his preschool teacher and friend) because that is what Jay gives Gloria each Valentine’s Day. Jay realizes that he has to set Joe straight because his negative qualities aren’t so cute when present in a three-year-old.

This episode is cute and funny, and the entire thing revolves around Valentine’s Day festivities. This episode is a must-watch if you’re looking to get in the holiday spirit. It’s not super romantic, but it’s fun and sweet.
