Ally McBeal: Thanksgiving

“Troubled Water” Season 3, Episode 5

Now, this is a Thanksgiving episode, unlike season 2’s attempt. This episode actually contains a Thanksgiving dinner and the interpersonal struggles that can occur when getting together with family and friends. There’s a lot of drama and lots of food. If you aren’t a regular viewer of the show, I think the episode might be confusing. Still, it’s also a very entertaining episode in general.

Ally invites her family and friends over for Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, things explode when she learns that her coworker and father had shared a kiss the night before. This leads to Ally kicking everyone out to confront her parents over their extramarital affairs throughout their marriage. Ally brings her parents to meet with her therapist to sort things through.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group relocates but continues to have an awkward dinner when tensions rise between Richard, Ling, and Whipper. The episode is complex and plot-heavy, but it does have some fun thanksgiving scenes. It wouldn’t be at the top of my list for everyone, but I think it is a great festive episode for fans of the show.
