The Sandlot (1993): Summer
July 18, 2016
The Sandlot follows a group of baseball loving kids during a 1960’s summer. When Scotty Smalls moves into a new town he longs to make friends with a local group who plays baseball together. He is a little awkward, but they soon accept him, and together they go on to face their collective fear of a scary neighbor and his dog, the Beast. They also deal with common childhood struggles like disagreements with parents, crushing on girls, and feeling insecure. This is a coming-of-age movie that gives off the vibe of a simpler time when summers weren’t so hot and screens were yet to invade every aspect of our lives and the economy still hadn’t crashed. This movie is a summer classic, a coming of age movie everyone should see. It has so many memorable moments, characters, and lines. It’s truly one of the most quotable millennial movies of all time. The Sandlot is a must-watch summer classic.
