Fear Street 1978 (2021): Summer

I wanted to review this when it came out last year, but alas, I had just pushed a human being out of my body so i was otherwise occupied. But I LOVE this movie. I want to preface this by saying this movie is part of a trilogy and you need to watch the first part (Fear Street 1994) to understand this part. So if you’re not looking to get invested, you can probably skip this one. That being said, this film is a love letter to summer camp slashers in the BEST way possible and I highly recommend checking this out. Set during the late 70’s the residents of the town of Shadyside have been cursed for centuries by a witch. Bad luck seems to befall the town residents and campers. When said witch decides to exact her revenge on the unsuspecting campers we get a gory fright fest that will have horror lovers cheering. This movies is well-acted, the effects are great, and the action is heart-pounding. And the best part is the set. It is CLASSIC American summer camp; this club has everything: cabins, striped fitted tees, short shorts, outhouses, capture the flag, and counselors fucking. There isn’t much more to say; if summer for you means summer camp slashers then this movie is PERFECT. For me, this is definitely going to end up being an annual rewatch.
