30 Rock: St. Patrick's Day
March 10, 2021
“St. Patrick’s Day” Season 6, Episode 12
This episode has two main storylines that run-throughout, both set around St. Patrick’s Day. The first quiz follows Liz and her boyfriend, Criss. Due to Liz’s hatred of the Irish, she stays home all day with Criss, wearing orange and teasing drunk people from her apartment window. Their day is ruined by a visit from Liz’s ex-boyfriend, Dennis. Dennis’s presence reveals some cracks in Liz and Criss’s relationship, mainly Liz’s inability to say “I love you.” Liz must rectify the situation to save her relationship.
Meanwhile, Jenna and Tracy are hired to host the St. Patrick’s Day parade on NBC, which has been disastrous in the past. Unfortunately, a new page ruins the carefully organized gig by implying that Jenna is a bigger star than Tracy. This leads to unnecessary competition between the two, once again messing up their parade broadcast.
There is a third, small plot about Jack playing a Settlers of Catan-like game with the writers. When he begins losing the game, he goes soul searching in an Irish Catholic church despite using his business knowledge to try to win.
This episode is set during St. Patrick’s Day and definitely has enough imagery to get viewers in the spirit of the holiday. However, it does contain some plot-focused events, which might be a little confusing if you’ve never seen the show; I still think this is a worthwhile watch, considering the minimal options for St. Patrick’s Day-themed episodes.
