Spring Breakers (2012): Spring Break
April 20, 2017
So this is probably not how most people want their spring break to go, at least the second half. This film follows four college girls who are pretty terrible people as they go on spring break. They rob a restaurant in order to fund their trip and then just proceed to get wasted. When they're arrested for their drug use, they're bailed out by a local rapper played by James Franco and then get involved in his shady lifestyle. This whole movie is weird, but it's a Harmony Korine movie so why wouldn't it be. I can never tell if he takes his movies seriously, like if there is a message and the films are deeper than they appear, or if they really are just lazy observation. He said he wanted to create a "sensory film" and I definitely thing he achieved that goal. Either way, I guess if you want a film to get you in the party mood this is the one for you.
