From Justin to Kelly (2003): Spring Break
March 30, 2018
The white whale of spring break movies... what a wonderfully horrible movie. I cannot stress enough what a strange time the early 2000s were. We had just finished the first season of smash hit American Idol, promising a life of stardom to its winner Kelly Clarkson. So what do you do first? Put her and the runner up in a musical about falling in love at spring break. I'm not going to rehash what every review of this movie has already said. We already know no one can act and the plot and music sucks. This movie is set in Miami during spring break and it evokes a very PG, early aughts spring break vibe. There's some drinking and allusions to sex, but it's considerably very tame. But I don't know, the beach and the dancing and singing puts me in a good mood. It's terrible, but also kind of campy which makes it fun to watch. If you're in the mood for a mild party movie with terrible original music, this is the one for you.
