Thirteen (2003): Mother's Day

So this is one of my favorite movies and it's interesting how it's aged with me. I first saw it when I was about 15 and I thought the girls in it were so cool and badass. Now I work with troubled kids and I'm like "ladies, you are children, get back in school". Anyway, this movie follows a thirteen-year-old girl, Tracy, who falls in with the wrong crowd and begins to get deep into the world of sex, drugs, and alcohol. It also follows her working-class mother who is doing everything in her power to save her daughter and get her away from the negative influences. This movie is very heartwrenching because it was written by one of the stars, Nikki Reed, who was only 15 at the time and based on personal experiences. It shows a mother doing anything she can think of the help her daughter and turn their lives around. It's sad, but contains some wonderful mother-daughter moments and shows the deepness of a dedicated parent's love. I definitely recommend checking it out.
