Tanner Hall (2009): Back to School
August 21, 2018
This film follows a group of girls who are in their senior year at a boarding school in New England. Fern has two close friends at school that she is excited to reunite with. However, there is someone who she's less happy to see: her childhood troublemaker friend, Victoria. Victoria quickly sets to work trying to steal Fern's friends and ruin her senior year. When Fern enters into a relationship with a married man, Victoria has a lot more to hold over Fern's head. However, it could be that Victoria's manipulation is a sign of emotional turmoil bubbling beneath the surface. This film isn't great, I wish it was. It's shot beautifully and is full of some genuine talents. The story is just weak and meandering, never really going anywhere. The subtleties can be interesting at times, and just painfully boring at others. It's very atmospheric and has some beautiful autumnal shots and is set at an old boarding school that elicits some Dead Poet Society academia vibes. This movie is a nice, laid back film to get you back in school mode and will have you ready for some crisp fall weather.
