School of Rock (2003): Back to School
August 27, 2017
I don't think anyone expected this movie to be as good as it was. It's hilarious and surprisingly touching for a Jack Black movie, not to mention the songs are amazingly catchy. This movie follows a failing musician who pretends to be his roommate in order to make money. He goes to a substitute teacher job at private middle school hoping to coast through and earn some extra cash. While he's there he sees the kids playing instruments and gets the insane idea that he can take them to Battle of the Bands and win. He begins to teach them about rock music and they begin to learn that they can be passionate about something. They turn their classes into secret band practice and they get pretty good. Obviously his lie is revealed and it seems like all is lost. This movie is really funny and sweet and because it's set in a middle school it is perfect to get you in the mood for back to school. Make sure to add this to your back to school movie night!
Upon writing this review I learned that there is a nickelodeon series based on this movie that is on ITS THIRD SEASON. IS NOTHING SACRED? STOP WITH THE REBOOTS!
