Stepmom (1998): Fall

Stepmom (1998): Fall

September 20, 2017

I watched this movie for the first time with my husband yesterday after hearing it was a good autumn movie and we think it's not that bad, it's just too long which makes it feel worse than it is. This movie is about a divorced couple and their children. Luke is dating a new younger woman, Isabel, played by Julia Roberts and his children hate her. This isn't helped by the fact that ex-wife Jackie hates her as well. The film follows the development of Isabel's relationship with the kids as well as Jackie's battle with cancer. I think this movie is fairly realistic in its depiction of the relationship between ex, step-kids, and stepmom. It can be hostile at first but hopefully everyone is able to form bonds, especially for the sake of the kids. This movie has some really gorgeous autumn scenery and I do think that it makes for a nice fall film. I watched it while knitting and drinking spiced apple wine so I was certainly enjoying myself. I would recommend giving this a watch. Like I said, it's a little cliche and runs a little too long, but other than that it's not that bad.
