Dead Poets Society (1989): Fall
September 29, 2016
So, here's a lighthearted film to get you in the spirit of fall! Just kidding, this movie is a fucking bummer, but like, in the best possible way. This movie follows a group of students a group of bored, rich students at a boarding school who become inspired by their new teacher, played by Robin Williams. He encourages them to "seize the day" and begin enjoying life by teaching them poetry. This is a very sad film, but is very good. I've gone through phases where I've seen it as a poor little rich boy film, but as I've grown I think I can appreciate the idea that even if you have everything that you think you want, let alone need, you can still be suffering emotionally. This movie is set in Vermont, but was actually filmed in my home state of Delaware. I took the SATs at the school where this was filmed and it honestly is just stunning. It is a boarding school, although it's co-ed. The warm tones of the film and the autumn trees will definitely get you in the mood for fall.
