This episode celebrates two holidays, Valentine's Day and Desperation Day. According to Barney, Desperation Day is the day before Valentine's Day, when single women are so sad about being alone that they will sleep with any guy around. Charming. However, in this episode, Barney meets Nora, one of Robin's coworkers who he begins to have feelings for.

Meanwhile, Marshall is still in Minnesota mourning his father, so Lily is celebrating the holiday with Marsh-pillow, a body pillow she dresses up in Marshall's clothes. Ted also has a spat with Zoey. This episode is very focused on the holiday and is a really great episode to watch if you want to celebrate Valentine's Day with some tv and wine.
