"Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations" Season 4, Episode 5

For a show that has a lot of holiday related episodes, this is the only Thanksgiving episode. I like it well enough, but it's definitely not my favorite by any means. This honestly might have something to do with the fact that this was the season where Dan Harmon was asked to leave, only to return for season 5. So this whole season tends to feel a little off to me. I believe shows can succeed through casting production changes, but i do think there tends to be an issue with transition. Anyway, in this episode, Annie, Abed, Troy, and Pierce go to Shirley's family thanksgiving, only to find out that her husband's family are the worst. They spend most of the holiday hiding in Shirley's garage trying to figure out an escape plan. Meanwhile, Jeff and Britta have dinner with Jeff's estranged father and his half brother. Jeff learns that his father is very much like him, which is disappointing because he's kind of an asshole. But they all come together to have a thanksgiving dinner with their real family, each other... and the dean.
