The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005): Summer
May 18, 2016
My teenage summers were mainly filled with me watching horror movies in my pajamas and working whatever part time job I could find. I longed for an adventurous summer. That’s what this movie is about, four best friends who are each embarking on a summer adventure. Lena is going to meet her family in Greece, Bridget is going to soccer camp, Carmen is going to spend the summer with her estranged father and his new family, and Tibby is stuck at home, trying to film a documentary. It’s easy to dismiss this movie as a silly teen girl movie, but it covers a lot of very real issues from body image and romance to death and dying to family dynamics. Movies addressing the experiences of teen girls tend to get dismissed, but this is a very deep movie that takes place during the summer. There are some incredible shots of Greece, as well as some other beach shots from Bridget’s stay in Mexico. This is a must-watch 2000’s coming-of-age flick.
