F the Prom (2017): Back to School
August 19, 2018
Holy fuck this movie is TERRIBLE. Like... just god awful. I mean, I can usually find a redeeming quality in a movie but... Jesus. I feel like I owe the Kissing Booth an apology for my review of it because at least that is watchable. This is PAINFUL. Why am I reviewing it? I dunno, it's set at a school, so it definitely fits the back to school genre. And maybe someone will enjoy it, I mean, I don't judge what other people like and don't like, but good god this movie is not for me. It follows a group of teenagers who decide to ruin the prom because they're mad at the popular kids. A former popular girl is leading the revolt when she starts hanging out with an old nerdy friend, but then he gets popular. I don't know, the whole movie is just unwatchable. None of the characters are real people, they're all caricatures of different high school stereotypes. They're all vapidly obsessed with social media and talking in "text speak" which I swear to god, is something that was happening in 2006. Like I've literally never heard a teenager in 2018 say "brb" or "omg" or "lol" out loud. This movie was made by people who think they understand "the youth" but are painfully out of touch and it shows. Like this kind of movie may have had MILD success back when I was a teenager in the mid 00's, but now? Nope. However, the entire movie revolves around a school so if you've completely exhausted all other back to school options and don't want to rewatch a better school themed film, check this one out. (But if you value your sanity, please don't).
