"Pilot" Season 1, Episode 1

This cult favorite that was cancelled far too early follows a group of high school students in the 1980's. Lindsay is a smart, fairly normal student who begins to fall in with a group of "freaks" who like smoking pot and slack off in school. She likes the fact that they like her as it makes her feel cool. Meanwhile, her geeky little brother Sam has a good group of friends, but he hates how often they're picked on by the jocks. In this episode Lindsay and Sam are forced by their parents to go to the school dance, which neither of them wants to do. The whole series takes place at a high school, but I think this episode is a great way to kick off a school year, especially considering there's a school dance involved. Nothing says high school like a school dance.
