Kramer vs Kramer (1979): Fall
September 13, 2018
So, I will preface by saying this isn't an out and out autumn film. It is set across a year in New York so you get to see multiple seasons, but the primary ones are autumn and winter. When his wife leaves him and his son, career man Ted, played by Dustin Hoffman, must adapt to fatherhood. When Joanna returns, they go to court to fight for custody. This movie is just generally wonderful, the acting is great, the story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. There are some wonderful gloomy shots of a chilly autumn New York that give the film a fall feel. The cast is wrapped in later 70's coats and sweaters that cozy up the atmosphere. Also, I personally just find autumn a great time for late 70's dramas. I definitely recommend giving this film a watch, maybe not for your first autumn film, but it's definitely not the least autumnal of the bunch.
